In the Las Vegas area these are some of the most common plant diseases.
Fungi may be the most widely spread disease that we treat. A fungi known as Powdery Mildew has been on the rise lately. Powdery Mildew appears as a dusty white to gray coating over leaf surfaces or stems. It may look similar to dust accumulation, but don’t be fooled. Powdery Mildew will usually begin as discrete circular spots and then expand. This disease is common in moist areas such as yards with swimming pools or areas with plenty of irrigation and shade. Injury due to Powdery Mildew includes stunting and distortion of leaves, buds, growing tips,
and fruit. Yellowing of leaves and death of tissue may result in premature leaf drop. Nutrients are removed from the plant by the fungus during infection and may result in a general decline in the growth and vigor of the plant.
Leaf Spot is another fungal plant disease we encounter in the Las Vegas area. From early Spring into the Summer months, microscopic spores are carried through the air or via insects. Without proper treatment these fungal spores are able to survive from one season to the next.
Fairy Ring is a common disease found in lawns. It is fairly easy to identify. Fairy Ring will create dead rings or arches throughout your turf. While these rings can appear in any lawn, they are often found in lawns that are under watered and under fertilized. However, simply adding water to the area won’t fix the problem. Fairy Ring is a fungus that grows through the pores of the soil, preventing water from reaching the plants’ roots.
